Alfred D Covey, Jr.

November 4, 1958 — September 20, 2021

Alfred D Covey, Jr., passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021 in Gatesville, Texas from Covid-19. He was surrounded by his family and cried out “Hallelujah” as he joined the saints waiting to march him into his glory.  He was 62. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 25, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church, Clifton, TX. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service (10:00-11:00 A.M.) in the Fellowship Hall at First United Methodist Church.

“Dad” to his kids; “Papaw” to his grandkids, “Jr” to his family and oldest friends; “Al” if he was feeling formal; and “Brother Al” to his church community, was born to Alfred Covey Sr, and Bernice Covey on November 4th, 1958 in San Angelo Texas.  He married Rhonda Pruett in 1985, and together they loved six children: Belinda, Veronica, Monica, James, Felecia, and Beverly.

Jr. enjoyed fishing and camping with his family and later in life he enjoyed taking cruises with his wife and friends.  He was a friend to many and will leave this earth with a legacy of generosity that will continue to resonate through his children and untold generations to come.

Brother Al served as a Pentecostal minister for many years.  He will be remembered for his boldness in proclaiming the love of Jesus to anyone around him willing to listen for a moment, as well as a handful of folks who were unwilling but unable to escape. Those were his favorite, and his boldness in Jesus brought many to Christ.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred D Covey, Sr. and Bernice Covey, and his sister Violet Covey. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years Ronda Covey; children Belinda Gainer and husband Daniel, Veronica Pruett, Monica Dyess and husband Sam, James Covey and wife Casey, Felecia Frederick and husband Dustin, and Beverly Patterson and husband Gene; and siblings Rodney Covey, Harlan Covey, Gail Hoisington, Charlotte Hoisington, Joy Turner, and Floyd Covey.

He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren, who he liked way more than the rest of us: Whitney, Daniel, Kenny, Nicholas, Mason, Justin, Madeline, Hank, Ryder, Haley, Randall, Gabriella, and Ivy.
