Alma Caroline Key

January 15, 1929 — January 11, 2016

Alma Key, 86, of Clifton, Texas, passed away Monday, January 11 at Providence Hospital in Waco. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 16th at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Clifton with the Reverend Clint Schofield officiating. Burial will follow at Clifton Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 p.m. on Friday, January 15, at Clifton Funeral Home.

Born January 15, 1929 in Fort Worth, Texas, Alma was the daughter of Preston M. Geren Sr. and Linda Giesecke Geren. She graduated from Paschal High School in 1947. Following high school graduation, she attended Texas Women's University and then the University of Texas at Austin, graduating from UT in 1951. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.

In Fort Worth she met and married William Frank Key, Jr. in 1955. They moved to Mason, Texas, where Bill practiced medicine and Alma taught high school English.
In 1956 the couple moved to Clifton, where Dr. Key joined Goodall-Witcher Hospital and Clinic. Bill and Alma raised their family in Clifton and became very active in their community.

Alma had a calm, quiet way of accomplishing so much in the community over the years by countless volunteer hours for many organizations which she loved. She was seriously involved with the Hospital Auxiliary Board, the Bosque Museum, the Bosque Arts Center, Clifton Civic Society, First Presbyterian Church, and the Clifton schools as a room mom and PTA president. She was recognized for her dedication with the 1999 Bosque Museum Heritage Award, 2001 Woman of Distinction from the Girls Scout, and Clifton Chamber Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.

Her many interests included gardening, playing bridge, reading, traveling, cooking, sewing, needlepoint, collecting art and antiques, and spending time with family in New Braunfels, TX.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents, sister Linda Geren Nichols, and brother Preston M. Geren, Jr.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 60 years Bill Key, her children Emily Key Pickell, husband Stuart, and grandsons Jonathan and Will of Fort Worth and William Frank Key III and wife Paige of Clifton, sister-in-law Pat Key of Fort Worth, and nieces, nephews, and friends too numerous to list.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Goodall-Witcher Healthcare Foundation, Bosque Museum, or First Presbyterian Church of Clifton.
