Annelle (Oswald) Wells

November 19, 1936 — July 24, 2024

Clifton

Annelle Wells, 87, of Clifton passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, August 1, 2024 at Clifton Church of Christ. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Oswald Cemetery.

Annelle Oswald Wells was born on November 19, 1936, to Samuel Martin and Robbie Elizabeth Newsom Oswald in Odessa, Texas. She was the younger of two daughters and lived most of her life on the family farm outside of Clifton. As a young girl, she was a gregarious, mischievous tomboy. She spent a lot of time outdoors on Queenie, her albino quarter horse. She rode Queenie bareback with just a braid in her mane to hold onto. Annelle also had a pet raccoon named Scrappy. She and Scrappy got in a lot of trouble together playing tricks on her sister Lulu. Annelle graduated from Clifton High School in 1954 when she was seventeen and a couple of months later married the love of her life.

She has been a member of the Church of Christ her entire life and met Glen Wells at the ripe old age of thirteen when his brother was a visiting preacher from Waco. Glen got up to lead the singing one Sunday night and she was smitten. She told her sister later that night, “He doesn’t know it yet, but he is the man I’m going to marry.”  He left for the Navy in August of that year to serve in Korea, and they had a four year long- distance romance.  They married in July of 1954 and celebrated fifty years of marriage before Glen was called home in 2005.

Together, Glen and Annelle set an example of Faith, Family, and Love that is a lasting legacy passed down to their children and grandchildren and will live on through their great-grandchildren.  They were blessed with three children, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Annelle went by many names throughout her life but none more cherished than MawMaw. She was known as MawMaw not only by her own family but also by friends of her children, friends of her grandchildren, and children of friends of her children!  She loved them all.

Annelle was happiest when surrounded by her family. She loved to listen to them laugh, and she loved to laugh with them—even if it was at herself!

Annelle was a faithful servant of the Lord all her life, serving in whatever capacity was needed. There probably isn’t anyone who has ever met her who hasn’t been a recipient of one of her delicious recipes. From homemade jelly to pies and cakes to casseroles, she enjoyed cooking for others. Until about two weeks ago, she could usually be found in the kitchen making something for someone just because they said they liked it!

Surrounded by her family, she was called home to our Lord on Wednesday night at 7:19 p.m.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband Glen; by her mother and father, Sam and Robbie Oswald; and by her sister, Lula Belle Cook. She is survived by two daughters, Glenda Winter and her husband Scotty of Gatesville and Brenda Finstad and her husband Keith of Clifton; one son Sammy Wells and his wife Terri of Clifton; five grandchildren, Trey Winter (Ashlea) of Floresville, Jamey Finstad (Kelly) of Scottsdale, AZ, Breann Finstad of Clifton, Scooter Wells (Allison) of Falls City and Ashley Currie (Chase) of Carrizo Springs; six great-grandchildren, Hayden and Hudson Currie, Sawyer Finstad, Chesni Winter, and Brock and Collins Wells; two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Doyle Wells of Conroe and Ray and Sharon Wells of Jasper; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
