Barbara Ellen Chaney

Barbara Ellen (Drake) Chaney of Clifton went to her heavenly home on December 19, 2018 at Providence Inpatient Hospice in Waco. Memorial services will be held at 4:30 P.M. Friday, December 28, 2018 at the American Legion, Clifton.

Barbara was born December 19, 1951 and was exactly 67 years old the day she passed away. She was born to Wilbur “Bill” and Verna Mae (Finstad) Drake in Fort Benning, GA. She attended public schools in Clifton, TX, Brunswick, OH and La Vega High School in Bellmead, TX.

She continued her education at Truman's School of Beauty Culture in 1973 in Waco. She worked as a beautician from 1973-1986. In 1988, she attended Central Texas College Corrections Officer Academy and worked as a Texas Department of Corrections Correctional Officer from 1988-1998. While working in her correctional officer role, she attended McLennan Community College and obtained her Associate in Applied Science in Mental Health. She used her education to try and help the incarcerated people she was responsible for to get their lives together. She was always very sweet and compassionate towards others.

Her hobbies included sewing, arts & crafts, baking, making flower arrangements, telling stories about her childhood, and spending time with friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers, Wayne Darrell and Don William.

She is survived by her daughters, Ralisa Bewley and husband, Avery of Clifton, Chistina McCourt and husband Eric of Clifton; stepmother, Cruz Drake of Anthony; sister, Diana Drake Stokes, and brother, Richard Drake and wife, Lorena of Anthony; cousin, Don Cox of Clifton. She had 7 grandchildren that she loved dearly, Dustin Randall and wife, Jennifer of Grandview, Shane Randall and Kirstie of Yuma, AZ, Garrett Randall and Abby of Waco, Taylor McCourt of Clifton and Steven McCourt of Clifton. She had one great-granddaughter, Jazzlynn Randall of Grandview, with her second great-granddaughter, Addison Nicole Randall, arriving in April of 2019.
