Funeral Services for Bertina Bartels will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Clifton. Interment at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Clifton. Visitation, 6-8 p.m. Monday, August 31, 2015 at Clifton Funeral Home.

Bertina Wilhelmina Anna Bartels was born on February 13, 1925 on the family farm west of Mosheim. She was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Emma (Meyer) Schulze. She became a child of God through her baptism on April 13, 1925 at St. James Lutheran Church near Mosheim. She affirmed her baptismal vows on her confirmation, April 10, 1939 at the same church where she was baptized.

Bertina began her education at Concord School which was a one room school about a mile from her home. After attending school at Concord for five years, she attended Turnersville School. She graduated as valedictorian of the seventh grade class, as well as her high school class of 1942.

After attending 4-C Business College in Waco, she worked for several years at Barnes Lumber Co. in Waco as a secretary.

On November 20, 1948, Bertina was united in marriage with Herbert Bartels at St. John Lutheran Church in Coryell City, Texas. They moved to the farm on which they resided all their married years.
To this union were born Sharon, Weldon, Shirley, and Denise. After all the children were in school, Bertina worked for twenty three years as a bookkeeper for Stevens Motor and Implement Co. in Clifton.

Bertina was a member of two Lutheran churches in her lifetime; St. James Lutheran of Mosheim and currently Trinity Lutheran Church of Clifton. At Trinity, she enjoyed being a member of the Dorcas Circle.

Bertina enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting, quilting, and gardening. She especially enjoyed sewing a quilt for each grandson for their high school graduation. She was always interested in her grandsons' activities. She delighted in visiting with her great grandchildren.
Bertina passed away Friday, August 28, 2015.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert, parents, Rudolph and Emma Schulze and her brother Harold Schulze.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved children, Sharon Bartels of Mosheim, Weldon Bartels and wife Debra of Mosheim, Shirley Griffith and husband Marty of Granbury; Denise Lane and husband Mark of Glen Rose. Bertina was especially proud of her seven grandsons that survive her, Brandon Bartels and wife Lori of Valley Mills, Baron Bartels of Mosheim, Brett Bartels of Mosheim, Kyle Griffith and wife Olesya of Dallas, Clint Griffith and wife Karly of Dallas, Collin Lane of College Station, and Colten Lane of College Station. Her great-grandchildren are Braxton, Lane, and Ella Belle Bartels of Valley Mills. Other survivors include sister-in- law Irene Schulze along with nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers include grandsons Brandon, Baron, and Brett Bartels, Kyle and Clint Griffith, and Collin and Colten Lane.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Clifton
