Betty (Erickson) Odom

July 22, 1945 — October 16, 2020

Clifton

Betty Laverne Erickson Odom went to her heavenly home on October 16, 2020, surrounded by her loving immediate and extended family. Celebration of life will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at First Baptist Church of Clifton. Visitation will be Monday, October 19, 5:00-7:00 P.M., at Clifton Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Clifton Memorial Park.

Betty was born on July 22, 1945, to the late Homer and Vera Humphries Erickson of Clifton. They lived in Clifton until she was 10 years old and then they moved to the family farm, where she enjoyed big family gatherings, a legacy she would continue until she was no longer able.

Betty attended Clifton public schools from first grade to her senior year, graduating from CHS in 1963. During her senior year, she met and married Freddie Glen Odom. They met at a rodeo and he soon became her favorite cowboy for 57 years.

Betty was baptized and grew up at the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed GA’s in her early years, taught Sunday School a number of years and was on the flower committee. She said, “her deepest wish is that all of her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends would receive Christ and live for his glory.” She had a strong root of faith and was known for sharing the faith and love through her actions and giving.

After graduating, she became a licensed beautician. She owned and operated Chat N Curl Beauty Salon for 40 years. Betty also became a licensed real estate agent and enjoyed selling homes. She especially loved helping young couples get that first home, often cutting her own commission to make it happen. She was a giver by nature with a huge loving beautiful heart always putting herself last. Betty believed giving was one of life’s greatest pleasures, whether it be gifts, labor, affection, advice or love.

Betty enjoyed numerous adventures and vacations with her family and special girl trips with lifelong friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Vera Humphries Erickson; one nephew, Randy Erickson.

Betty is survived by her husband of 57 years, Freddie Odom; children, Sheree Odom Williams and husband Bill, Michael Odom, Ernest Hilburn and wife, Christy all of Clifton; grandchildren, Rebecca Bird and husband, Danny Ray, Connor Odom and wife, Hope, Payton Odom, Bailey Odom and Shaley, Gracee Hilburn, Hydee Hilburn, and Shawn Williams; great-grandchildren, Bristol Bird, Daisy Odom, and Leighton Williams; brother, Pat Erickson and wife, Martha; sister, Linda Chism and husband, Ben; and beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
