Billy Mccleary

Mr. Billy Dale McCleary, 74, of Clifton, Texas passed away on February 1, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 5, 2018 at First Baptist Church, Clifton with Dr. Jerry Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Lanes Chapel Cemetery immediately following the service. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Clifton Funeral Home.

Bill was born in Morgan City, Louisiana to Roy Lee and Georgia Juanita McCleary on July 23, 1943. He graduated from Sam Houston High School in San Antonio and later attended Hill Jr. College in Hillsboro. Bill joined the U.S. Navy in 1964 and served until 1966 aboard the destroyer USS Shields.

Bill resided in San Antonio where he worked for San Antonio CPS Energy as a maintenance foreman in the power plants until he retired in 1999.

Bill was a loving husband, father, pappaw, son-in-law and brother. His family was important to him. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Clifton where he served as a deacon. His Thursday morning Men’s Prayer Group was especially important to him. He also served on various committees and was an usher, greeter and vital member of the building grounds committee. Bill participated in Texas Ramps, Inc. in Bosque County building wheelchair ramps for those who were disabled. Bill was part of a team who built houses in Mexico as a mission outreach of Grace of Giving. He could always be counted on to help someone in need. Bill loved the Lord and would often share a testimony of what the Lord meant to him. Attending the sporting events in which his grandchildren participated was a favorite pastime for him. Bill was an encourager and a friend to many. He was often found on the Bosque Valley Golf Course enjoying fun and fellowship with his golfing buddies from church.

Bill and Diana enjoyed traveling in their RV for many years. Creede, CO and Big Bend National Park were favorite destinations. They enjoyed their adventures in parasailing, hiking, zip lining and exploring the areas they visited.

Bill is predeceased by his parents, and his first wife, Nancy McCleary.

He married Diana in 1996. They were both students at West Junior High School in Waco in 1959-60. The two reconnected 32 years later after attending a high school reunion. Boerne, TX was their home until they relocated to Clifton in 2006.

He is survived by his wife, Diana; children, William McCleary (Gale), Robert Becker (Kathy), Kristel Pressley (Trent) and Kyle Phillips (Julie); grandchildren, Ethan, Erin, Meredith, Braden, Jackson, Griffin, Isabelle, Zachery and Brandon.

Pallbearers are William McCleary, Roy McCleary, Robert Becker, Kyle Phillips, Trent Pressley, Jackson Phillips, Griffin Phillips, and Braden Pressley.

Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Thursday morning Men’s Prayer Group.

Memorials may be made to Bosque County Food Bank, First Baptist Church, Clifton or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
