Carolyn Rose Blum

September 5, 1936 — August 11, 2015

Carolyn Rose Sealock Blum, 78, of Clifton passed away August 11, 2015. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clifton with Reverend Clayton McCord officiating.

Carolyn was born September 5, 1936, in Texas City, Texas, the younger of two children born to Clyde Robert and Beulah Mae (Cornwell) Sealock. She attended public school at Texas City High School and also attended Master Classes at a music festival during one summer spent in Aspen, Colorado. At the age of four, Carolyn began playing the piano and could read music before she could read words. When she was nine and her sister, Doris, was eleven, they entered numerous contests in Galveston. Their recitals featured solos and dual piano classical selections. Participating in church services, Doris would play the organ and Carolyn would be at the piano. Carolyn was taught by a Julliard piano teacher and at the age of thirteen she, too, began teaching piano.

When she was eighteen, she made two guest appearances as the featured pianist at the Houston Symphony Orchestra. She enjoyed teaching piano to several Clifton children. She and her husband bought bells for the church in memory of their son and started the bell choir, writing adaptations of church music for it. Loved by her family and friends, she will be sorely missed.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 54 years, Truman Otis Blum and a son, Charles Robert Blum.

Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia Lynn Blum Hill and husband, Gary Hill; two grandsons, Milton and Nathan Barnum; and one great-granddaughter.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church.
