Carolyn (Barzak) Homerstad

Carolyn (Barzak) Homerstad, 91, of Clifton passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 2, 2024 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church at Norse. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Church. Burial will follow at Norse Cemetery.

Carolyn was born on July 26,1933 to parents Roy W. Barzak and Ollie Mae (Shields) Barzak in Waco Texas. She was the second child of three, an older brother and a younger sister. She was baptized September 10, 1933, and confirmed May 25, 1947, at First Lutheran Church Waco Texas. She graduated from Waco High School in January 1952. She met Loyd V. Homerstad at the Luther League church camp in Valley Mills, Tx. They were married April 5th, 1952. To this union four children were born Nancy, Sarah, Phyllis, and Loyd Jr. Her plans were to be a housewife and mother which she was. Due to husband’s unseen health issues, she entered Goodall-Witcher nursing program and got her LVN. She worked at Goodall-Witcher Hospital from 1970 to 1998. Her favorite part was working in the nursery taking care of mothers and babies. Carolyn and Loyd were married a little over 40 years at the time of his passing in December of 1992. After retirement she liked to travel places and watch granddaughters in band and sporting events. Carolyn moved to Heckman assisted living facility in 2012 and to Lutheran Sunset Ministries in 2015.

There were many blessed times and laughter out on the home place, from swimming at the creek, having picnics, feeding cows, horses and taking care of those pesky snakes with her .410. Long before Carolyn and Loyd met, her family would come from Waco to Bosque County to visit there deeply rooted Norwegian relatives, so she already knew a lot of people in this area.

She loved her church family and coworkers at G-W and all the friends she met on her journey through life. She will be greatly missed.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband Loyd, sister Joan Wood and brother Billy Barzak, several sisters and brothers-in-law.

She is survived by her children Nancy Bailey and husband Travis, Sarah Homerstad, Phyllis Homerstad, Loyd Jr. and wife Brenda, brother-in-law James Wood; grandchildren Shannon Homerstad, Allison Cook and husband Josh; Tony Bailey and wife Maria; great-grandchildren Hayes and Aubrey Cook, Harrison and Maya Bailey; numerous nieces and nephews.
