Charles Harrison Gustafson, 90, of Clifton passed away peacefully to be with his Heavenly Father. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 9, 2021 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church at Norse. Burial will follow at Norse cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Clifton Funeral Home.
Charles was born January, 30, 1931 in Round Rock, Texas, to Alline Sellstrom Gustafson and Glen Gustafson. They resided at the family farm in Clifton, Texas. Charles was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior Lutheran Church. He was a lifetime member and loved to serve his church. He attended the Little Norse School two years and then attended Clifton Schools. After high school, he attended Clifton College for two years. He then went to North Dakota with his brother Claude to meet Claude’s fiancée, Joyce Carlstad. She introduced her good friend, Irene Haugenoe, to Charles, they fell in love and married in 1960. Charles and Irene had two children; in 1963 Richard Glen was born and in 1966 Sherri Lavonne was born. He was a loving father and husband for 60 years.
Charles enjoyed his children’s activities at their schools and also loved to watch the high school football games through the years. Charles farmed the family farm for many years. He worked at Byford Machine shop, and also helped build houses in Clifton. He enjoyed woodworking, deer hunting, fishing, golf, including Putt-Putt, and playing marbles, cards and dominoes with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed bowling with his friends and family. Charles enjoyed watching the Clifton Cubs, rarely missing a home game, and the Dallas Cowboys. He spent time listening to country music and watching westerns on television. The family enjoyed travelling and visited Mexico, Yellowstone Park, Glacier Park, Nashville, and Branson to see the musical programs. Charles and his family enjoyed their summer visits to Montana and North Dakota, and often watched the Theodore Roosevelt play performed in Medora, North Dakota.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents Alline and Glen Gustafson, his sister Evelyn and husband Wallace Carlstad, his sister-in-law Joyce Gustafson and his brothers-in-law Earl Haugenoe, Dale Larson, and Leif Binde.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Irene Gustafson, his son Rick Gustafson and his wife Susan of Fort Worth, Texas, Sherri Feris and her husband Mike of Fort Worth, Texas, and granddaughters, Abigail Corder and her husband Beax Corder of Copperas Cove, Texas, Alyssa Gustafson of Harker Heights, Texas, and Tatum Harris of Fort Worth, Texas, his great granddaughter, Reagan Corder of Copperas Cove, Texas, his brother Claude of Kalispell, Montana, and his sister Betty Kruse and her husband Kenneth of Clifton Texas, his sisters-in-law Ruby Binde and Cheryl Haugenoe of Williston, North Dakota.
He will be missed by all those who loved him.
