Darlene Hulme

December 19, 1922 — February 22, 2016

Darlene Hulme, age 93, passed away Monday, February 22, 2016 in San Antonio, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2016 in the Clifton Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jerry Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Clifton Cemetery.

Born December 19, 1922 in Henderson, Iowa, Darlene was the daughter of I.O. and Maude Jacobs. She was the second oldest of six siblings.

She attended school in Council Bluffs, Iowa and after graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1943, she completed her basic training and indoctrination courses at the Naval Training School in the Bronx, New York. After which, she reported to San Pedro, California for duty in the Radio-Radar Division. Darlene met her husband, Allen, and they were married in Long Beach, California on December 23, 1944. She was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy as storekeeper second class and returned to Clifton, Texas to await her husband's return from Okinawa. The couple then made their first home in Clifton, Texas. Due to her husband's employment at Central Freight Lines, the couple also made homes in Waco, Houston, Austin, Amarillo, and Odessa where she raised daughters, Vickie Lynn and Cindy Dawn.

Darlene was active in church and serving others through Eastern Star. She enjoyed cooking and playing cards with friends. Upon her husband's retirement, they joined an RV club and traveled all over the United States. She loved spending time with her family and they would take an annual RV trip to visit her family in Iowa and Maryland.

Darlene was preceded in death by husband, Allen Hulme.

She is survived by daughters, Vickie Tonn of Richmond, Texas, Cindy Muller and husband Gary of Mission Hills, Kansas, granddaughter Heather Gooden and husband Kevin, and two great grandchildren Hailee and Kooper Gooden all of San Antonio, Texas.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
