David Roy Honea of Clifton passed away Saturday, March 23, 2019 surrounded by his family. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Meridian Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Monday, March 25, 2019 at Clifton Funeral Home.
David was born January 2, 1948, in Morgan to Delmer “Babe” Honea and Mable Sullivan Honea. He spent his childhood growing up in Clifton. As a teenager, he left home and ventured to Denton to live with his sister, Betty. While living in Denton, he met and married Marsha McCormick. After getting married, he served in the Army from 1968-1970, serving a year in Vietnam.
In 1972, after the birth of his first child, he moved his family back to the town he loved, Clifton. He and his brother, Edward formed Honea Brothers Construction and built many homes and businesses in Bosque County. When he wasn’t building houses, he could be found on a lake or river somewhere fishing. He was an avid fisherman and was a member of many of the area Bass Clubs, winning many awards. He loved his family and enjoyed taking them camping on his many fishing trips.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Delmer and Mable Honea; brother, Bobby Honea; Sisters, Betty Colwick and Lois Moore; and nephew, Danny Honea.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marsha Honea; children, Michele Blackshear and husband, David of Clifton, Michael Honea and wife, Janie of Granbury; grandchildren, Chandler “Bryce” Blackshear, Riley Blackshear, Elizabeth Honea, Nicole Honea and step-grandson, Tucker Blackshear; brother, Edward Honea and wife, Ann; Christine Evans and husband, Ricky, of Clifton; sister in law, Laura “Boots” Honea of Gatesville and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Hospice Sunset for their loving care, Clifton Funeral Home, Dr. Phillips, and all the many loving family members. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Association.
