David Clifton Megarity, Jr. went to be with his Lord on May 1, 2024. His wife of 62 years was at his side. David, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, was born on May 28, 1940 in Corsicana, Texas to David and Modena Megarity. He graduated from Corsicana High School in 1958. He completed his formal education at Navarro Jr. College and Texas Tech in 1964. He married his high school sweetheart Sue Lynd in 1961.
After college, his first job was with Union Carbide in Dallas, Texas. That job took him to New York in 1968 where he began his life-long career in computer programming. During that time he was active in the Army Reserve serving during the Vietnam Era with the 94th General Hospital and 74th Field Hospital as Spc. 5 with a MOS of Medical Corpsman. His career in computer programming took him back to Texas in 1973 with detours to Canada, England, and South Africa. His career covered over 50 years. He and his family lived in the Lake Highlands community of Dallas for 28 years where they raised their son Mark and daughter Dena. When they were younger, he especially enjoyed taking them camping and water skiing with family and friends. He retired from Computer Associates in Plano, Texas in December 2006.
In 2007 he and Sue retired to Clifton, Texas where he was active in The First Baptist Church, the Rotary Club, serving as membership chairman for 10 years, and the Bosque Republican Club. He also enjoyed being involved in local community activities and events. David loved living in the country. He enjoyed working on and around his property. He especially loved his family and his group of high school buddies, The Grey Tigers, who continued a 60-year tradition of camping and card-playing. He always felt fortunate to have ten lifetime “Best Friends”. He said the only thing equal to old friends were new friends, like all those he made while working and living in Dallas and after retiring to Clifton.
He is preceded in death by his parents David and Modena Megarity.
He is survived by his wife Sue Megarity of Clifton, Texas, son Mark Megarity, his wife Catherine and son, Atticus of Lake Tapps, WA. daughter Dena Megarity of Richardson, Texas, and sister Shirley Megarity of Clifton, Texas, as well as a large family of in-laws.
