Deloris Jean Huse

October 18, 1929 — November 29, 2024

Deloris Jean Huse, age 95, of Murchison, Texas passed away on Friday afternoon with family by her side. She lived at Advanced Rehabilitation and Healthcare of Bowie, Bowie, Texas. A 5-star nursing facility, where she shared her joy and sweet smile with all her caregivers and enjoyed excellent care. Deloris was born to the 3rd generation of Norwegian immigrants, Morris and Lucy Huse of Cranfills Gap, in the Hill Country of Central Texas, Norse Country. The Huse lineage originated from Romedal Norway bordering Sweden.

Deloris married her 1st husband Wilford McFarland at the tender age of 17, in 1946, shortly out of Cranfills Gap School. They were blessed with a daughter Linda Darlene in 1947 and then a son Larry Wayne in 1949. They didn’t stay married long.

Deloris married her 2nd husband Raymond Lee Shelton, a Naval Seaman in 1953, they were blessed with 3 children, Debra Ann in 1955, sons Ronnie Lee in 1958, and Michael Todd in 1962.

Deloris was a stay-at-home mom, commonly called a “housewife” back in the day and she was really good at it! You could eat off her floors, they were so clean! As the kids got older, she took a job at Pangburns/See’s Candy Factory in Dallas, on the production line. She would bring home the imperfect Millionares every Friday!

Deloris eventually moved from candy production to makeup production and took a job on the production line at Mary Kay Cosmetics in Dallas, Texas. She maintained a stellar employee reputation and got her picture taken with Mary Kay herself. She retired from M.K. but decided to take a job at Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas. Her responsibilities were to maintain the Chapel on campus, right up her alley, where she got to meet college kids, minister, and clean. She retired again this time for good, moving to Murchison, Texas, by Callender Lake with Raymond.

Deloris loved growing roses, hydrangeas, and lilies in her flowerbeds. She took care of her 3 little house doggies, fed feral cats and hummingbirds. She loved people and was a social butterfly, sharing her love, joy and faith with everyone around her. She would put a tall glass of iced tea in her mailbox for the postman on hot summer days. Back then they carried heavy leather satchels full of mail on foot all day. Deloris loved to crochet, make dolls and quilt. She made the best Coconut Cream Pies, that Raymond and the guys would fight over! She loved watching the Cowboys play, golf if Tiger Woods was playing, and Nascar.

Deloris was a devout believer, full of the Love of Christ. She will be greatly missed!

Deloris is preceded in death, by her Mother, Lucy Huse, Father, Morris Huse, 1st Husband Wilford McFarland, 2nd Husband Raymond Shelton, Daughter, Linda Darlene Umscheid (2023), Sisters, Maxine, Margie, Rita Kay, Brother, Dennis, Grandson, Kevin Cutshaw, Granddaughter, Debbie Lyte.
