Don Leroy Humphries

Don Leroy Humphries, 89, of Clifton, Texas, passed away on May 23, 2024, in his hometown. He was born on November 4, 1934, in Clifton. Don was a proud Army veteran serving from October 27, 1954 til September 14, 1956.

He attended Clifton Elementary, Clifton High School, and Clifton College before embarking on a career at Wilson Building Materials in 1956. On December 20, 1958, Don married the love of his life, Marsha Carolyn Reed. They were happily married for 49 years, before her death, on November 20, 2007.

Don was a beloved father survived by his son, Donald Loyd Humphries and wife, Shelly Du. He is also survived by granddaughters, Casey Parker, and husband, Josh, and Brandy Michelle Sowder; great-grandchildren, Noah Parker and Hayley Sowder.

Don was the 9th child of 10 children. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bunyan Willie Humphries and Johnie Myrtle Kilgore, his wife, Marsha Carolyn Reed Humphries. Siblings: Terrance Harold Humphries, Ivy Mae Humphries, Virgie Leola McFadden, Vera Myrtle Erickson, Reva Eloise Spitzer, Bunyan Willie Humphries, Jr. Clarence Edward Humphries, Kirby Wilber Humphries, James Weldon Humphries.

Known for his happy and selfless nature, Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing dominoes at the VFW and American Legion. He was an old-time Noodler, who loved catching big catfish.

A service to honor Don’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Clifton. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.

Don will be remembered for his positive spirit, love for his family and dedication to his country and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Pallbearers will be Bert Cook, Michael Odom, Brett Amundson, Bill Williams, Mark Humphries, and John Erickson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Humphries, Pat Erickson, Dr. Richard Spitzer, and Freddie Odom.
