Doris (Wages) Stevens

April 21, 1931 — March 6, 2021

Doris Earlene Stevens, 89, of Clifton went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 6, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Clifton Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Clifton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Friday, March 12, 2021 at Clifton Funeral Home.

Doris was born on April 21, 1931, in Lubbock, Texas. She was the daughter of Edna Ophelia Hopkins Wages and Earl B. Wages. She attended school in Morton, Texas. She married Charles Elton “Buster” Stevens in Morton, Texas on August 20, 1949.

Doris and Buster lived in Lubbock, Morton, Walnut Springs and then they bought their farm in Hamilton County, near Cranfills Gap, Texas in 1958. They raised their three children there. Doris worked on the farm for many years and worked in the dietary dept. of Goodall Witcher Hospital and she and Buster owned Stevens Motor Implement and RV in Clifton, TX.

Doris is a member of First Baptist Church in Cranfills Gap and was the music director there for many years. Doris was a member of the Ladies Senior Golf Association and enjoyed the monthly luncheons with the golfing ladies from Clifton. She was an avid golfer and had a few hole-in-ones to brag about. There was a group of RV owners that would travel all around to play at a different golf course every day.

Doris known as MeMaw loved following her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in all their activities. She was their biggest supporter.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; son, Shelton; granddaughter, Jamie Dittrich, and her sister, Kathleen Sisco.

Doris is survived by her husband of 71 years; daughters, Ann Dittrich of Fort Worth and Dewana McMillan and husband, Anthony of Clifton; sister, Dolores Taylor of Lubbock; grandchildren, Shae McMillan and wife, Cheryl, Jenny Garza, James Dittrich and wife, Courtney, Kimberly Kelly, Leigh Ann Poulter and husband, JoeDan, and 10 great-grandchildren and a host of extended family.

Pallbearers will be Shae McMillan, James Dittrich, JoeDan Poulter, Dusty Burke, Nick Burke, and Jimmy Burke.
