Edwin Adolphus Peters, 88, of Austin passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at Norse with Pastor Bill Metting officiating. Burial will follow at Norse cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Edwin was born July 23, 1928 to James and Lila Marie (Linberg) Peters on beautiful Bee Creek in Bosque County. Edwin grew up on the family farm at Bee Creek. He graduated from Clifton High School in 1946.
Edwin joined the US Marine Corps, where he served his country from 1946-1948. Upon returning from the service, Edwin married the love of his life Peggy Ann Pylant on July 10, 1949.
After Peggy and Edwin’s marriage in 1949, he attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, where he earned his master’s degree in education. Later they moved to Bay City where he taught school, drove the bus, coached sports and ran the city swimming pool. In 1964, the family moved to Austin, where he was Educational Director at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church. He was an active member of the Sertoma International Service Organization and involved in the State Commission for the Blind for many years. He worked as director of the Crisis Intervention Center until his retirement in 1994. He and his wife belonged to St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Oliver; son, Paul Edwin Peters; grandson, Daniel Hardman and granddaughter, Aubrey Peters.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Peters, of Austin; daughters, Marsha Scott and husband, Mike, of Port Aransas, Susan Wofford and husband, Bill, of Austin, Dr. Brandy Alba and husband, Josh, of Dripping Springs; brother, J.G. Peters, of Angleton; grandchildren, Jeremy Esensee and wife Selena, of Port Aransas, Chris Wofford and wife, Cindy, of Austin, Billie Rose Wofford, of San Marcos; seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Hayden, Katy, Taylor, Rainey, Odin, Loki, Morgan Jayne and one great-granddaughter on the way.
