Elsie Day was born on August 13, 1914 near Kopperl on the family farm. Elsie was the third child born to Ben and Bessie Billings Day. She grew up near Kopperl, and attended the Union Hill School in her early years and graduated from Kopperl High School. After graduation, she attended a beauty school. She met Robert "Bob" King in Kopperl, and after a brief courtship, they got married on October 28, 1937.

In the early years, the couple made their home in Kopperl. They moved to Louisiana with Bob's job and lived there most of their young and middle adult years. Bob worked in the oil industry. One son John, was born in Rayne, Louisiana. After John was raised, they took opportunities to travel and work overseas.

They traveled with oil companies around the world. They made their home in Australia for a couple of years, traveled to Kenya, India, Singapore, and back to Louisiana. They moved back to Texas to retire, but then took a job up in Wyoming. They settled back here in Texas in the mid to late 70's.

Elsie loved to travel and enjoyed reading, playing bridge, working in her yard and entertaining her grandchildren. She loved to have her grandchildren dress her up. When she was able, she enjoyed attending church with her sister Billie at First Baptist Church of Clifton where she was a member. She was always up for some short trip somewhere and enjoyed company.

She enjoyed having her grandchildren visit for a time during the summers and always had a quick witted response to most comments people made.

She passed away at the Goodall-Witcher Care Unit on November 11, 2015 at the age of 101. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob and by all but one sister . She is survived by her son John King and wife Gail of Clifton, by her sister Billie Prince of Clifton, and by three granddaughters and their families: Karen Tucker of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, Kayla Miller of Waxahachie, and Bethany Smith of The Woodlands and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church of Clifton.
