Fern Curlee finished her journey here on earth and claimed her heavenly reward on the evening of November 10, 2019 surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Services will be held on Friday, November 15, 2019 at 2pm at the First Baptist Church in Clifton.
Mrs. Curlee was born in Mosheim Texas on June 28th, 1936 the child of Robert A. Anz and Lillie W. (Schulze) Anz. At an early age, Fern and her family moved to a farm east of Clifton in the Womack Community. Fern entered 1st grade at Womack School and continued her education there until the 6th grade when Womack students combined with Clifton Public School system.
Fern attended four high schools: Clifton, Gatesville, Mosheim and Cranfills Gap High where she graduated in 1954.
While attending school in Mosheim, Fern met her future husband. Fern and Lowell Earl Curlee were united in matrimony on February 12th, 1955 at First Baptist Church in Clifton. The couple would have celebrated 65 years of marriage next year in February 2020. The family grew as their four children were born: Robert Dyer, Randy Lowell, Julie Renee, and JoBeth.
Fern was a wife, homemaker, and stay-at-home Mom until all her children were in school. Fern worked at Service Drug Store for a time and then was part of the Food Service Department at Clifton ISD for several years.
Fern then became employed by Goodall-Witcher Hospital in Clifton as a unit secretary for twenty years retiring in 2001.
Following her retirement, Fern was a dedicated long-time member of the Goodall Witcher Hospital Auxiliary where she logged many hours greeting visitors at the front desk of the hospital. She also assisted with fund-raising projects such as the annual spaghetti suppers and the fall pumpkin patch events.
Fern also gave of her time at the Clifton Food Bank and was on the First Baptist Church Benevolence Committee for many years.
When the Curlee kids were young, Fern taught Sunday School in various departments and helped out with GAs and RAs.
Fern enjoyed traveling and visiting places all over the United States. Multiple trips to Colorado and Nashville with husband Earl were favorites, and she also enjoyed family trips to the beach at Galveston and Surfside. Fern had fun on “girls trips” to Las Vegas, New York City, San Francisco, and Seattle. Her most recent and final vacation trip was to the Catskills Mountains and Hudson River Valley in upstate New York.
Mrs. Curlee is survived by her husband Earl, son Rob & wife Terry, son Randy, and daughters Julie and JoBeth. Also granddaughter Kimberley, grandson Travis & wife Chelsea, and granddaughter Claire & fiancé Adam and great-granddaughter Kate. Also surviving is sister Joyce & husband Don, sister-in-law Dorothy and her nieces and nephews.
