Floella Anz

September 7, 1941 — December 11, 2022

Clifton

Floella Boatman Anz, 81, of Clifton passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 11, 2022. A service in her honor will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Zion Church Womack with Pastor John Thiele officiating.

Floella was born in El Paso, Arkansas to Luther Roy and Mary Ellen Modlin Boatman on September 7, 1941. Before the family moved to Texas, Floella attended school in Beebe and Cabot, Arkansas but graduated from high school in Plum Bayou, Arkansas. It was during Floella’s time in Texas that she met Franklin Anz. Franklin and Floella were united in marriage on February 2, 1962 at Zion Church Womack. The couple had three boys: Charles Berlon, Teddy Wayne, and Doyle Lee.

Floella lived a life that is hard to put into words. She spent her younger years as a homemaker and mother to her boys. She later babysat other people’s children, worked at the Clifton Locker Plant, the City of Clifton, Dillard’s, and even owned a convenience store for a period of time. Floella also served as a caregiver for the elderly before needing that same sort of care herself. Whatever Floella did, she never wanted to be too far from family. She lived the majority of her life either in Arkansas or in Texas. There was a brief time that her job with Dillard’s took her to Phoenix, Arizona, however, she quickly returned to Arkansas to be closer to her family. Floella was always up for anything. Once when she was young, she helped her sister, Jackie, try to ride a bull. She rode dirt bikes with her sons, tried to build a human pyramid on water skis with her sisters, and did tricks on the trampoline with her grandchildren. Floella embraced life and was kind to all.

Floella is preceded in death by her infant son, Charles Berlon; parents, Luther Roy and Mary Ellen Modlin Boatman; brothers, Roy, Bill, Hubert, Dennis Ray, and Herbert Boatman; sisters, Katie McMillan Cottrell, Jackie Smith, and Martha Ellen Boatman.

Floella is survived by her sons, Ted Anz of Stanton, Alabama and Doyle Anz and wife, Lesa, of Clifton, Texas; her sister, Glenda Gold, and husband Willie of Cabot, Arkansas; brother, Luther Roy Boatman, Jr and wife, Linda, of Texarkana, Arkansas; grandchildren Robyn Black Minton and husband, Randall, of Shelby, Alabama, Kiera Anz-Acklin and husband, Clay Acklin, of Fayettville, Alabama, Tanner Anz of Gulf Shores, Alabama, Kelli Anz Strahan and husband, Kelly, of Navasota, Texas, Amy Anz of Nashville, Tennessee, and Austin Anz of Stanton, Alabama; great-grandchildren, TJ and Maddie Minton of Fayettville, Alabama, Gage Acklin of Shelby, Alabama, and Callen Strahan of Navasota, Texas; and a host of very special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family would like to thank Sunset Hospice for the excellent care they provided for Floella during her final days.
