Frances Bradshaw Hatter

February 14, 1924 — December 2, 2022

Clifton

Frances Juanita Bradshaw Hatter passed to her Heavenly Father’s hands on December 2, 2022.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at First Baptist Church, Clifton. Private family burial.

Frances was born in Oglesby, Texas on February 14th, 1924 to W.L. and Audie Bradshaw. She grew up on the family farm in Ogelsby, graduating from McGregor High School and Draughn’s Business School in Dallas. She moved to Waco where she worked as a sales clerk at Woolworth’s, Cox’s department store and Sherwin-Williams before moving to Clifton in July, 1952 where she became a clerk at Community Public Service, which is now Texas-New Mexico Power. She was employed there for nearly 39 years, retiring in February, 1991.

Frances joined the First Baptist Church of Clifton in October, 1956 and became a fixture in the congregation. She actively served on nearly every committee for the church and also taught Sunday school and headed up activities for children for many years. She proudly served as a delegate to the Southern Baptist Convention on both the state and national levels. In her later years, she famously distributed church bulletins to the Sunset Home and to shut-in members of the congregation. It was rumored that the doors to the church were not allowed to be open without her being present. She was well known as being candid and outspoken regarding all things at the church.

Frances enjoyed travelling and visited every state in the Union. She also globe-trotted to Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czechoslovakia, England, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Lichtenstein, Mexico, Netherlands, Panama, Russia, Scotland, Switzerland, Turkey and Wales. She loved socializing with fellow travelers and the local populations. Most often accompanied by Peggy, she also travelled with Bill and Marlene Reed, a former music director at First Baptist, and also by the DMA (don’t mention age) group from Midland, Texas.

She hosted an annual family reunion at Reddy’s Retreat on Lake Whitney every summer. She was known as “The General”, organizing and commanding the event. Of all things she loved her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, carefully listening to them. Generous to a fault, she gave often and was reluctant to accept help from others. Her independence was her trademark. There were two ways of getting things done, her way and the wrong way.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Peggy Hatter Olsen and her husband, Steve Olsen of Kingwood, by grandchildren Stephany Olsen-LeGrand-Karges and her husband, Curt Karges of Houston and daughters Ansley, Brynn and Sloane LeGrand, and also by Brent Olsen and his wife M'Lee of Spring, Texas and their children, Riley, Zachary and Charlotte Olsen.
