Frances Louise Homerstad

Frances Louise Loper Homerstad, 95, of Clifton passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Norse. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Norse Cemetery.

Frances was born and raised in Mosheim, TX, the daughter of Oscar Loper and Sarah Henderson Loper. She attended Clifton Junior College, where she met John Homerstad. She said she knew from the moment they met that they would marry, which they did at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Norse, TX, on August 31, 1941. They were married for more than 65 years until his death in 2006.

She went with her husband wherever his calling took them, including Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and Luther Theological Seminary in St. Paul Minnesota. After pastoring in Minnesota, they took their two young children to Japan, where they had two more children and served as Lutheran missionaries for 17 years. After returning to Texas, they served several Texas churches, with their last assignment at Our Savior's in Norse.

She was an avid learner all her life, a member of Clifton's Magazine Club until it disbanded, and She and John also enjoyed making 200 berlinerkranser, krumkake and rosettes for Smorgasbord for many years.

Frances is survived by her four children, Sharon, Trudy and husband Rich, Deborah and husband Roger, and John Verne and wife Tammy; 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren (with another on the way) and many nieces and nephews.
