Herbert was born in Meridian on September 1, 1936, to Herbert F. W. Lammert and Mamie (Teichelman) Lammert. He graduated from Old Glory High School and later received degrees from Texas Lutheran College and Wartburg Seminary. On June 14, 1958, he married Barbara (Eckhardt) in San Antonio. He was called by God to be an Ordained Pastor in the Lutheran Church for 56 years. He spread the love of God to the following parishes: First English Lutheran Church in Damon, TX, Our Savior’s Advent Lutheran Church in San Antonio, TX, Committee on Hispanic Ministries for the Texas District of the ALC, Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale, TX, Faith Lutheran in Meridian, TX, and was Hospice Chaplain at various locations in Texas. His love of God and his commitment to walk in the steps of Jesus profoundly impacted the loves of those around who knew and loved him. He inspired and taught many interns and students who saw him as a mentor and shining example of what a dedicated servant of God should be.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a wonderful gardener and often grew more than they could eat but would always share the bounty with friends and neighbors. He served his community as an active member of the Lions Club. He and Barbara enjoyed traveling and took trips to Germany, the Holy Lands, and traced footsteps of Paul the Apostle around the Black Sea. They also traveled to Africa visiting Lutheran Churches in Tanzania.
Herb and Barbara celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June. From this union, 3 children were born: Rebecca and husband Ronald Lusk of Denver, CO., David and wife, Donna Lammert of Belton, and Beth and husband, Jim Shaver of Clermont, FL. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. Other survivors include his brother, Danny and wife, Helen Lammert, brother in law, Bert Turner, along with many nieces and nephews, 2 aunts and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Gloria.
