Isla Ruth Dyer

Isla Ruth Dyer, 89, of Clifton passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Clifton Nursing and Rehab. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 5, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Clifton with Dr. Jerry Smith officiating.

Isla Ruth Ray was born on December 8, 1926 in Cranfills Gap, Texas. She was one of three children born to George Forrest Ray and Mary Reierson Ray. She grew up in Bosque County and graduated from Clifton High School in 1945. She attended Clifton College prior to her marriage to Clifford Dyer. The couple was married on December 8, 1946. To this union were born three sons, Cliff, Edwin , and Bobby. She worked for many years as a daycare worker and also as a devoted housewife. Her husband was a mechanic most of his adult life.

Her home was always open to her sons' friends and she became a second mother to many of them because she treated them like family. She became a member of First Baptist in 1961 and worked in a variety of places in the church through the years. In recent years, she was an active member of the Esther Sunday School Class and was involved with her class in ministry projects and fellowships. She will be remembered for her gracious, kind, and humble spirit. She always sought to live by the Golden Rule.

She was preceded in death by her parents Forrest and Mary Ray, by her husband Clifford, and by one son Cliff and by one sister Olena Herzog. She is survived by two sons: Edwin Dyer and wife Wanda of Victoria, Texas and Bobby Dyer of Clifton. She is survived by one brother Ralph Ray and wife Wanda of Clifton, by seven grandchildren, seven great- grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.

She passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2016 just shy of her 90th birthday which would have been on December 8th.
