A Service of Celebration for Jackson Clay Newton will be held at the Clifton High School Performing Arts Center at 10 A.M. on Saturday morning June 11. Dr. Jerry Smith will be conducting the service. A time of visitation will take place from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. on Friday evening June 10 at the First Baptist Church of Clifton Sanctuary.
Jackson Clay Newton was born on March 21 2005 in Waco, Texas. He was the second son born to Matt and Beckie Newton. He grew up in Clifton and was entering his Senior year at Clifton High School at the time of his death.
He loved the outdoors and sports. He started playing Pee Wee football and Little League baseball when he was five and excelled in both of them throughout his youth. He served as the high school ball boy when he was in Jr. High. He grew up fishing and hunting with his grandfathers, father, brother, uncle and friends.
He excelled in athletics in high school. He was on the power lifting team his Sophomore year. He was the starting center and middle linebacker on the Clifton Cub football team. He played catcher and first base on the Cub baseball team and was on the High School fishing team where he served as an officer. He was a certified welder and enjoyed working on his diesel truck. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed helping friends work on their trucks. He was a hard worker in whatever he attempted and would help anyone who needed help.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clifton where he was baptized, and enjoyed helping in the community. He wanted to study Electrical Engineering and planned to attend Tarleton State University.
Jackson passed away on June 7, 2022 in a single car accident. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Jackie Franklin Howry.
Jackson is survived by his father and mother Matt and Beckie Newton of Clifton, his brother Hayden Newton of San Antonio, Texas, his maternal grandmother Tricia Howry of Wichita Falls, his paternal great-grandfather Melvin Davis of Granbury, his paternal grandparents Rick and Cindy Newton of Hamilton, his aunt Melanie and husband Doug Strange of Holliday, and his aunt Amy Basket of Whitney, aunt and uncle Beth and Chad Elston of Colorado Springs, and cousins Duke Strange, Marklie Strange, Cade Brenegar, Cannon Basket and many other relatives and friends.
The interment will follow in the Clifton Memorial Park and the Clifton Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
