James (Jim) C. Kessler, 68, of Ft. Worth went to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 30, 2018 at John Peter Smith Hospital in Ft. Worth. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Lanes Chapel Cemetery.
Jim was born February 12, 1949 to Stewart Bryon Kessler and Mildred Lee Cook Kessler in Harris County. When James became a young man, he met and married Sharon Mantooth. He was drafted into the Army on July 3, 1969. He was discharged on August 26, 1971 following the birth of his son, Robbie Edward Kessler.
While living in Houston, Jim operated a towing service, but what he loved most was to sing gospel music. He formed a group, The Uplifters, with Sharon’s brother, Kenny Mantooth and her sister, Jeri Mantooth. They recorded an album called, “Just Look Up.” Upon leaving Houston in the 90’s, he moved to Fort Worth and operated another tow truck service. While living in Fort Worth, he made many life long friends and joined Gospel Lighthouse Outreach, where he was a faithful member for over 20 years. During this time, James met Brother Dendy. The two became the best of friends. Brother Dendy became James’ right hand.
James never met a stranger. Everyone who knew him had much love for him.
James is preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Brent Kessler.
He is survived by his son, Robbie and wife, Karen and granddaughter, Gracie of Valley Mills; brother, Ed Kessler of Brenham, TX; one niece, Wendy and two nephews, Chris and Tracie.
