James H. Perkins

James H. Perkins, 86, passed away Friday, January 25, 2019 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, February 1, 2019 at Clifton Funeral Home. Committal service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Winchell Cemetery, Brooksmith, TX.

Jim was the second child and first-born son of Madella (Bass) Perkins and Monroe Perkins and had 9 siblings. He was born May 5, 1932 in Leesville La.

Jim came to Ft Worth, TX and met Wayne Tibbetts and his then-girlfriend Norma Cunningham. This would become a lifelong friendship that nothing could break apart. They introduced him to Norma’s cousin, Sondra Buchanan. The two married in 1950 and moved to California while Jim was in the Navy. They had three daughters, Cynthia Louise, Pamela Diane, and Melissa Gaye over the course of 9 years. They divorced in 1964. He married Eva Jean Nichols Ivie September 15, 1966, and was married for 47 years until her death in July 2013. She brought 3 children into the family, Linda, Judy and Louis Dale Ivie.

Jim worked for Oak Farms Dairy after his Navy service then Foremost Dairy and finally Fleming Co. from which he retired in 1994 and moved to Lake Brownwood to be close to Jean’s family.

Jim always put family ahead of anything else in his life. As each sibling left home, they came to live with him and he helped each get started in their adult life.

He and Jean traveled first with a camper and then a travel trailer to places all over the US. Jim loved to quail hunt and ride around in his boat. Time with his grandchildren was always so important, he loved to have them stay with him, Grandad and Grandmama were always proud of all their grandbabies.

Jim is preceded in death by his father and mother; 4 brothers, Leo, Merlin ‘Red,’ Marshal and Frank and 2 sisters, Theda Sain and Opal Carroll and daughter, Judy Cook and his beloved wife, Eva Jean.

He is survived by his three sisters, Sybil Martin, Sue Cadle and husband, Edwin, Donice Gentry; his three daughters, Cindy and her husband, Jimmy, Pam and her husband, David and Melissa and her husband, Neil; grandchildren, Brandi Bird and husband, Robert and children, Grayson and Kinsley, Christopher Browning and Jon Browning, Kaitlin Meske Thornton and her husband, Alex, and Garrett Meske. Also, Louis Ivie, Linda Johnson and her husband, Will, and grandchildren James and Jeffery Burns, Jason Cook and Katrina Cook Gernand and her husband, Mike, and many cousins, nephews, nieces and other well-loved relatives.
