Janet (Leatherwood) Ellingson

November 9, 1934 — December 28, 2024

The angels have taken Janet Ellingson up to be with her Lord and Savior, on Saturday, December 28, 2024. Her celebration of life and service will be Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Clifton Texas. Visitation and viewing will be from 12:00 to 2:00 PM in the fellowship hall and lunch will be served. The service will start at 2:30 PM followed by a graveside at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Clifton, Texas. 

Janet (Leatherwood) Ellingson was born on November 9, 1934 in Lamesa, Texas to Thomas and Myrtle (Johnson) Leatherwood. As a child she grew up in Crosby, Texas, and enjoyed playing basketball in high school. On January 9, 1953, she was married to Claude Elmo Ellingson. They lived in Galena Park, TX for nine years where they had three beautiful daughters they cherished. They relocated to Fort Worth TX where she and Claude worked for Korenek Builders for 20 years. Janet was a member of the local PTA and very involved with her daughters school and extracurricular activities. She and Claude moved back to Clifton, where he grew up, and they owned The Womack General Store for several years. Claude passed away in February 2005. Mother continued to live in Clifton Texas where she enjoyed being close to her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also loved traveling to Florida to visit her daughter and family. 

Janet had several very memorable trips with her family. Her Alaskan cruise trip and Branson trip with her husband brought great memories. The Christmas in July trip to Destin, FL, and the Disney cruise for her 80th birthday were very special to her because all her family was able to attend. She also cherished the memories of her celebrations for her 85th and 90th birthdays. She also had fond memories of spending time with her family on the lakes of Texas water skiing. 

Janet was a faithful member of Faith Lutheran Church in Fort Worth and Trinity Lutheran Church in Clifton. She served on several committees at the church. She was most happy making the unique hand made greeting cards for church members, family and friends. She and Claude also participated in the Mason and Eastern Star organizations. 

Janet is preceded in death by her parents, husband Claude, and Son-in-laws Preston John and Kent Wisdom. Her brothers Thomas, Carl, and OW; sisters Viola, Margaret, and Iris and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

She is survived by her daughters, Sheila and Larry Musselman, Clifton Texas, Gena Vee John and Greg Rottet, The Villages, Florida, and Claudette Wisdom, Fort Worth, Texas. Grandchildren Julie and Jason New, Clifton, Texas, Sarah and Matthew Domel, Clifton, TX, Ashley John and Michael Damron, Crystal River, Florida, Melissa and Greg McGinty, Miami, Oklahoma, Laura and Jeff Harper, Nashville Tennessee, Holly John, Miami, Oklahoma and Tanner Wisdom and Kendall Lewis, Benbrook, Texas. Great-grandchildren, Judd, Lucy and Tilden New, Jack, Lily and Krete Domel, Alexander Chavez, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Pallbearers are George Collins, Charles Conrad, LeeAllen Ellingson, Darrell Leatherwood, Walter Leatherwood, Judd New and Jack Domel. Honorary pallbearers are Tanner Wisdom, Tilden New, Alexander Chavez and Krete Domel.
