Jesse Byron Butler

March 24, 1936 — June 7, 2020

Meridian, Texas

Jesse Byron Butler passed away on June 7, 2020.  He was born on March 24, 1936 in Pecos, Texas to parents Ora and Otis Butler and sisters Barbara and Anne.  Shortly after, they moved to Fordyce, Arkansas, where Byron grew up hunting and fishing.  Byron graduated high school in 1955.  Prior to graduating he enlisted in the National Guard where he served from 1954-1963.

Byron met his beautiful bride, Luanne, in Corpus Christi, Texas. In 1964 they threw caution, parental consent, and jobs to the wind.  Byron and Luanne left Corpus in a 1965 Mustang, eloped in Dallas, and set off across country with all their belongings. Eventually they settled in the Dallas area and raised a family.  They were married for 36 years, and after Luanne passed, he remained ever faithful for 20 more years.

Byron was a draftsman for 25 years before starting his own drafting supply business.  He was an exceptional woodcraftsman.  Byron could engineer, build, and fix just about anything.

Byron was a man of faith and family.  He loved a good joke and a good prank.   He loved old country music and bluegrass, especially Ernest Tubb and Merle Travis.  He loved to tell stories.  He loved Texas.  He lived by his Mama’s words, “Do Right”.

Byron was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 36 years, Luanne Butler, his son, Michael Byron Butler, and by Tater, the Best Dog Ever.

Byron is survived by his sons, Dan Butler and wife Teresa of Meridian, Joel Butler and wife Lindi of Buda, daughter Laura Tomlin and husband Lance of Salado, grandchildren Jacob, Lauren, Hadley, Jessie, Dylan, Lilian, and Joshua, and sisters Anne Black of Hot Springs, AR and Barbara Rascoe of Arlington, TX.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
