John was born in Alta Loma, TX January 8, 1930 to John L Moore, Sr. and Helen Gilbert Moore. Of whom preceded him in death along with two sisters Lydia Anne Stone and Mary Robertson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Wanda Janett Moore. 5 children, Randy Moore (wife Roxie), John Moore III (wife Annette), Pam Moore, David Moore (wife Vikki), James Moore, (wife Darlene); 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; 1 brother, Albert Moore (wife Merci) and 2 sisters, Norna Cooper and Florence Coleman.

A resident of Clifton for 6 years. One of six children, he learned early the meaning of hard work. Milking the cows before school and rounding up cattle, feeding the animals, working the garden among many other chores. He loved to hunt and fish and cook on a campfire. He graduated High School from Santa Fe High School 1947 and went on to join the Marines in 1948. He loved the Marines so much he joined two more times…He is a veteran of the Korean War and a former member of The Texas State Guard 1946-1948. Returning home from the marines, (hitchhiking most of the way) he went to work as a cowboy on the Pierce Ranch with his good friend George Sanders. George introduced John to Janett Jackson who was the sister of George’s fiance’. John married Wanda Janett Jackson January 30, 1953. They had 5 children. John went to work for the US Postal Service and later Amoco Chemical in Texas City, TX. He moved his family from Alvin Tx to Texas City, Tx to be closer to his work. Always a strong work ethic that has been passed down to his children and grandchildren. He worked as a pipefitter, welder, plant operator and tankerman. On one long strike, he worked as a roustabout in the oilfields of west Texas near Ft Stockton, TX. Dad worked hard but, he also played hard: Camping trips, road trips, hunting trips – to Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore, Grand Teton, Royal Gorge just to name a few, so many memories… Running on fumes for 30 to 40 miles passing up perfectly good gas stations to save a penny a gallon before stopping to fill up.

After retirement, Dad and Mom went on many mission trips with the UTMB Baptist Student Union of Galveston, building churches and cooking for the medical teams. He performed countless volunteer hours in his community feeding the homeless and helping build a Crisis Pregnancy Center. He was a member of the Texas Baptist Men’s Builders. He has been a member of several churches in his lifetime.

Dad was a man of few words, so you better listen when he did talk.

A man of honor; faithful and ethical.

A gatherer, collector of rocks and interesting things.

A gentle man, a family man.

John was affectionately known as “Uncle Bill”.

Most importantly: A man who knew his loving savior, Jesus Christ.
