Steve was born in his home in the Heights area of Houston, Texas on November 20, 1935.

He was the son of Dorothy Stephens Hoffpauir and Winan Joseph Hoffpauir. He graduated from Milby High School of Houston and attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, where he was the President of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.

The majority of Steve's career was spent in the energy and petro chemical industry. He also followed his passion for food by venturing in several restaurant enterprises, which included Vice President/Director of Franchise for Mr. Gatti's.

Steve was an avid reader who loved history and poetry. He was an active member of the Bosque Art Center and the BAC Culinary Club where he recently was awarded The Grand Champion of "Men Who Cook".

He had a true gift of transforming his outdoor surroundings into striking lush gardens of blooming plants and flowers, attracting birds and butterflies of all types.

Steve had a love for all things culinary including good wine. He was well known for his gracious hospitality, welcoming family and friends with wonderfully cooked meals, lovingly prepared and beautifully served. Papa Steve's home cooking was always a favorite among family.

Out of all of his wonderful gifts and talents, Steve was most passionate about his love for his wife, his five children and his thirteen grandchildren (with one on the way), whom he encouraged and cherished spending time with.

Steve was preceded in death by his brother Winan Joseph Hoffpauir II and his daughter Melissa Ann Fleming.

Steve will be greatly missed and is survived by his wife of 43 years, Caren Ann Hoffpauir and their daughter Caris and her husband Jarod Altimore of Houston, Texas; his daughters Susan and her husband Robert Semmens of Brooklyn, New York and Stephanie and her husband Blake Beckham of Dallas, Texas; his son Jon Hoffpauir and his wife Alice of Escondido, California; his grandchildren, Patrick, Elizabeth, and Kate Semmens; Hunter Owen and his wife Meredith, Emily, Ty, and Charlotte Owen; Zachary and Anna Fleming; Stephanie, Jessica, Abigail, and Cassidy Hoffpauir. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas Adair Hoffpauir of Houston, Texas.

Steve trusted in God's amazing grace through our Savior, Jesus Christ.
