Joyce Laverne Thiele (Cross), born on July 18, 1943, in Waco, Texas, passed away peacefully at the age of 81, on September 23, 2024, in Clifton, Texas. Joyce was a beloved member of the community, known for her deep commitment to local heritage groups including the Mary West United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She cherished her involvement in these organizations, often participating in trips and events that celebrated her heritage.
Joyce married the love of her life Daniel P. Thiele on July 16, 1960, at the Thiele Homestead, where together they raised 4 daughters. Her life was marked by a passion for genealogy and traveling, especially her gambling trips which brought her much joy. Above all, Joyce was devoted to her family, cherishing the time spent with her loved ones.
She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Cheyne and husband Dennis, Carolyn Jackson, Cynthia McCutcheon and husband Mike, Ronda Ruiz and husband Armando, all of Clifton, Texas; her sister, Wanda Brooks of Hewitt, Texas; 14 grandchildren, along with many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel P. Thiele; her parents, John P. Cross and Lola Mae (Ferguson) Cross; her sisters, Jean Patrick and Ruby Parsons; her brother, John C. Cross.
Visitation for Joyce will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Clifton Funeral Home in Clifton, Texas. A service celebrating her life will be Friday, September 27, 2024 at Fairview Baptist Church in Clifton, Texas at 11:30AM, with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Danny Burnett, Dennis W. Cheyne, Preston Donahue, Wyatt Parton, Dustin Cheyne, Owen Calderono
In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions be made to Sunset Hospice, West 5th Street, Clifton, Texas 76634 or to Fairview Cemetery, 992 County Road 3530, Clifton, Texas 76634. These contributions will honor Joyce’s memory and her commitment to the community she held so dear.
