Leon Allan Cheney

Leon Allan Cheney passed away May 3, 2016. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, May 7, at Lakewood Christian Church, 6509 Bosque Blvd in Waco, with the Rev. Richard Roland officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m., prior to the memorial service.

Leon was born January 27, 1938. Leon served 4 years in the United States Navy and was stationed at the Naval Air Station Agana Guam, 4 years in the U. S. Naval Reserve, attended the University of Minnesota for 2 years and completed a bachelors degree at Antioch College, started his career in law enforcement at Hunting Beach Police Department California followed by Burnsville Police Department and ending his law enforcement career as a Deputy U. S. Marshal, Waco. Leon has been a private investigator with his company, Legal Support Services of Texas since 1981. He is a retired Major with the Texas State Guard. He served on the client advocacy board for 15 years with the Waco Center for Youth. He has been a member of Lakewood Christian Church since 1980 and served as a deacon, elder and various committees. Leon enjoyed fishing, hunting, and "ham" radio and was one of the founders of the Texas State Guard Amateur Radio Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Lois Cheney of Redwood Falls Minnesota.

Leon is survived by his wife, Carolyn Cheney; son, David Black of Laguna Park; daughter, Kimberly Cheney-Gorski and her husband, Adam, of Waco; Kimberly's mother, Gayle Cheney and son Robert Shadowens of Waco, his son John Cheney and wife, Taylor; grand-children, Claire and Mady Cheney all of Austin; and sister, JoAnne Thorp of Marble Falls; he also leaves behind to cherish his memory numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many dear friends. He enjoyed keeping in touch with his friends and will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lakewood Christian Church.
