Lois Ann (Womack) Skinner

Lois Ann (Womack) Skinner passed peacefully at 4:20 p.m. on August 17, 2023. Her final moments were spent peacefully surrounded by family and close friends. Lois Ann was born on August 17, 1947, in Waco, Texas to RC and Camille (Smith) Womack. She was a twin but her twin sister, Ruth May, passed after birth. She was affectionately known by her family as Mom, Grams, Lois Ann, and Aunt Lois. Lois Ann was influenced by her family to be a loving and caring person, always giving her time to others, making her family a priority, and she incorporated that into her whole life.

Her family moved from Waco, Texas to Smith Bend in 1961. She attended Clifton High School and graduated in 1965. She then attended The University of North Texas where she earned her degree in Education and Library Science. She later went back and got her master’s degree.

She met her husband, Larry, when she was 15.  Larry was the love of her life, and they were married in 1967.  Lois Ann taught middle school and high school math in the Garland ISD until their daughter Clair was born in 1975 and their son Matt in 1979.  She was a wonderful mother who was always there when her kids needed her. She never gave up on her kids and was their biggest cheerleader. She also had many friends and many friends she counted as family. When Lois Ann became a grandmother, she was absolutely thrilled about her family growing even bigger.

Her canine companions were dear to her. Her grand dogs Daisy Mae, Dutchess and Kailer stayed behind but Amy Sue, Dolly, Maxie, Cupcake, Andy, Baby, Sugar, Choppers, and Zoey are on a long walk with her now.

Lois Ann was kind and passionate but also very witty and fun! She was fearless and independent, yet sensitive and incredibly compassionate. She loved the beach, vacations, swimming, art, her book clubs, Red Hat group, her dogs, and spending time with her family as much as possible. She volunteered at the kids’ school when they were growing up and spent countless hours at the church doing volunteer work, teaching CCD, working with kids that were suffering losses, ran Vacation Bible School, and chaired many a church carnival, doing marriage and family encounter workshops. She was strong-willed and stubborn, but those traits defined her. They were part of who she was, and her strength undoubtedly helped her deal with life’s challenges. Lois Ann was world-renowned for her lack of not holding back her opinion and a knack for telling it like it is. She told us never tell her something in public that needed to be in private because she was going to react the same way. That theory was tested, and she was correct.  Lois Ann cared so deeply for the people around her. She made an impact on many lives.

Lois Ann will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Lois Ann’s family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life, not the sadness of her passing. She is survived by her husband, Larry Skinner, daughter Clair Skinner (Chuck), son Matt Skinner (Kirsten), grandchildren Kaitlyn Page, Garrett, and Cullen, her brother, Richard Womack (Gail), her nieces and nephews TJ Womack, Russell Dorward (Chelsea), Diane Stark (Cody), Brian Richardson (Pam), Bret Richardson (Lori) and Allen Richardson (Christy.)  Many great and great, great nieces and nephews along with many cousins.

Lois Ann was preceded in death by her parents, RC and Camille (Smith) Womack, her mother and father-in-law, Edgar and Lillian Skinner, her grandparents Richard Carroll and Mary Ruth (Holt) Womack and Hortense and Hirm Smith, her sisters Ruth May Womack and Jennifer Dorward, her brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Barbara Richardson, grandson Richard Carroll, nephew Garett Womack, and many other dear family and friends.

For those who wish to celebrate and say goodbye to Lois Ann, the family asks you to join them on August 26, 2023, at the Clifton Funeral Home located in Clifton, Texas. Visitation will be from 10:30 am to 11:30 am and the celebration of life will start at 12:00 pm with a meal following. The Family requests you wear pink to celebrate Lois Ann.  It was her favorite color.  Donations can be made in her name to the Coon-Creek Cemetery in Smith Bend, Texas, or any other charity of your choice to honor her.
