Lola Margarette Bonds Eggen

Lola Margarette Bonds Eggen, 96, entered her Heavenly home on Monday, January 12, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clifton with Pastor Clay McCord officiating. Burial will follow at Smith Bend-Coon Creek Cemetery near Laguna Park. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2015, at Clifton Funeral Home.

Lola was born July 18, 1918 to Ethel (Vaughn) and Walter Pope Bonds at their home in the Coon Creek Community in Bosque County. She was educated in the Coon Creek Schools. At an early age, she became a member of the Coon Creek Methodist Church where both sets of her grandparents were charter members. She married Troy Eggen on March 14, 1941. Troy was a state trooper and they lived in Gainesville until Troy enlisted in the Navy and served his country during WWII. A daughter, Brenda Ann, was born before he went overseas. Four of Lola's five brothers were also serving in the military during WWII. Lola and Brenda lived at Coon Creek with her parents and two younger sisters while Troy was away at war.

Upon Troy's return from the war, he enrolled in Baylor Dental School in Dallas where the family moved. Lola Lavonne was born while Troy was in dental school. Upon completing dental school, they moved to Clifton where Troy began his practice and Lola made a home and continued to support him and raise Brenda and Lavonne. The young family became members of First United Methodist Church in Clifton. When Brenda was fourteen and Lavonne ten, a third daughter, Christy Ruth, completed the family.

Later, the family moved their church membership to Trinity Lutheran, where Lola has remained a faithful member for over fifty years. Lola was active in the Clifton Civic Society, several bridge clubs, the Band Booster Club, PTA, and the women's groups at Trinity. She was a proud member of the Bosque River Valley Daughter's of the American Revolution. She was an avid Bridge player, a marvelous cook, a gracious hostess, and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt.

Lola was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Marshall, P. A. (Goggie), Wayne, Walter Marvin (Nogger), and Milton (Tooter); two sisters, Betty Ruth (Mrs. Leon Hagmann) and Mattie Nell (Mr. Larry Boswell); son-in-law, Barry Cody; niece, Betty Willman; and nephew, Marshall Hagmann.

She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Cody of Fort Worth, Lavonne Sims and husband, Glenn of Abilene, Christy Prince and husband, John, of Fort Worth; seven grandsons, Troy Cody of Hurst, Greg Cody of Seattle, Washington, Brent Cody of Denton, Shaughn Sims of Ballinger, Lance Sims of Abilene, Marine Lance Corporal Christopher Prince of Okinawa, Japan, and Bradley Prince of Fort Worth; six great-grandsons, Joshua Cody, Nicolas Cody, Trent Cody, Griffin Sims, Cayden Sims, and Drake Sims; two great-granddaughters, Trinity Sims and Nicole Cody; sisters-in-law, Francine Bonds and Elda Eggen; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends

Memorials may be made to Lutheran Sunset Ministries, Trinity Lutheran Church, or Smith Bend-Coon Creek Cemetery Association.
