Lonnie Lee Ray, age 79, of Laird Hill, Texas, passed away on February 10, 2024, in Morgan, Texas. He was born on September 22, 1944.

Lonnie was known for his love of working with his hands, particularly wood and leatherwork. He was a familiar face at the Farmers Market, in Meridian, Texas, where he was fondly known as “the egg and honey man.” Lonnie’s passion for woodworking and his dedication to his craft will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Lonnie is survived by his two sons, Robert Lee Ray (Becky) of Morgan, Texas, and Gregory Don Ray ( Marquita ) of Hillsboro, Texas. He is also survived by his brother, Eddie Ray of East, Texas, as well as his two grandchildren, Robert Ray Jr. and Tessa Ray, and eight great-grandchildren.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Marie Barber Ray, his parents, Ira Lee and Eva Juanita Ray, and his sister Donna.

Lonnie graduated from Leverett’s Chapel High School and went on to attend Kilgore College. He served in the Air Force from 1963 to 1967, where he made invaluable contributions to the military.

After his military service, Lonnie pursued a career as a welder. His dedication and expertise in his field were widely recognized and respected.

Lonnie leaves a legacy of love and devotion for his family and community. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is now with Marie.
