Lucille Schaffner

Lucille Schaffner, 98, of Clifton passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Goodall Witcher Nursing Facility. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, March 10, 2023 at Clifton Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Clifton Cemetery.

Dora Lucille Caddell Schaffner was born on March 15, 1924, in O’Donnell, TX to JJ Caddell and Dessa Watkins Caddell. She grew up and attended school in Sulphur Springs, TX. At age 17, she started her first job building bombs for WWII in Burnett, TX. She later moved to Dallas, TX where she worked as a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell. While in Dallas, she met her husband Joe Schaffner, and they married on January 12, 1947. Shortly after that, they purchased twelve acres of frontage land of the proposed Lake Whitney. In May 1952 they opened for business. Uncle Gus’ Lodge was born! For the Next 25 years, they built, owned, operated, and Grew their business together.

Her favorite thing was dancing, and then there was dancing!!! And for sure, dancing every Thursday night at Sul Ross Dance Club in Waco. She loved miniature dachshunds. First, there was Tinkerbell I, then fifteen years later there was Tinkerbell II. She enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors. She was always happy and loved living LIFE! She was a joy to be around. Lucy will truly be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Oscar Joe Schaffner; and six older siblings.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Charlotte Schaffner; son, Jeffrey Joe Schaffner; and grandson, Oscar Joel Schaffner.
