Lydia Hulda Knust

August 19, 1921 — January 17, 2016

Lydia Hulda Knust, 94, of Clifton, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Hillcrest Hospital. The Family will hold a Memorial service at 10:00 am Friday, January 22, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Clifton.

Lydia was born August 19, 1921. She was the daughter of Henry and Annie Walsleben Hampe. She was the forth of seven children, born at home east of Clifton on the prairie. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith.


Lydia married Joe Knust on November 22, 1944 at the St. Paul Lutheran church. They made their home in Bosque county. Joe and Lydia were blessed with four daughters: Barbara, Sue, Nell and Peggy. Lydia and Joe farmed in Bosque County prior to moving to Pecos in the late 1950's where Joe managed a feed lot. As the girls reached school age, Lydia worked at Anthony's were she was the Manager/ Buyer of the fabric and pattern department. Upon Joe's retirement in the 1970's, they returned to Bosque county. Lydia worked at Boise Cascade/ Lowes in Clifton until her retirement.

Her loving husband Joe, preceded her in death in March 1997. Also preceding her in death her oldest brother Arnold and her youngest sister Laverne (Babe).

Surviving siblings include: Clara Zuehlke, Oscar Hampe, Alice Willmann and Louise and husband J.C. Oswald. Lydia is survived by her daughters Barbara Treat, Sue Mills, Nell Vaughn and Peggy Ashley. Grandchildren include: Ann Treat Worsham, Joe Treat, Christina Mills Westover, Wade Vaughn, Bryan Mills, Kyle Vaughn and Clay Ashley. Lydia was also greatly blessed by nine great-grandchildren.


Lydia joined her Lord in His glorious resurrection on Sunday, January 17, 2016.
