Mal was born June 20, 1939 in Anderson SC to Leo Phillip and Doris (McClain) Fousek. He was a fighter pilot during the Vietnam era, flying F-4's and the F105G Wild Weasel. He was known by many as “the wildest weasel”. After retiring from the USAF in 1979, he entered the scuba diving business owning a dive store, Fathoms’ Way, and PADI Instructor Training Center, Ocean Tech in Fort Walton Beach, FL. Mal and his wife were partners in the business and Mal was responsible for the certification of thousands of divers as PADI Scuba Instructors. In 1989, they moved to California where they worked for the PADI Worldwide Headquarters. Once again, Mal’s job allowed him to travel the world. He visited many dive locations, his favorites being Okinawa and Thailand. They moved to the Clifton area in 2007 to retire and began living the Texas life. Their new passion was longhorns that were kept as pets and all had names. While not a native of Texas, Mal embraced the Texas lifestyle and grew to love God’s country.
