Marion Mount

Marion Knight Mount was born on March 2, 1925, in China Spring, TX. As she grew up, she was delighted to share her birthday with Texas Independence Day. She lived in Belton and Commerce, graduating from East Texas State College in 1945. She taught architecture and mechanical drawing to high school and college students for 28 years. During those years, she continued her education, and in 1973, she accepted a position at the Surry Nuclear Power Plant in Surry, VA. Marion was an engineer there for 17 years, retiring in 1990. She moved back to Texas, settling in Clifton. The move to Virginia was prompted by her sister, Doris Knight Benson.

They devoted many years to searching for shark’s teeth on the James River. Their adventuresome spirit took these two sisters all over the United States and Mexico. Marion collected rocks, arrowheads, and fossils. Her knowledge and collections were astounding. She donated her extensive fossil collection to Mary Hardin Baylor several years ago. She enjoyed reading, genealogy, drawing, painting, cross-stitching, quilting, and woodworking. She enjoyed being outdoors in nature. She loved climbing trees, watching the clouds, riding her bike, star-gazing, and her puppy dog, Millicent. Her interests were endless. In February 2013, Marion became a charter member of the Bosque River Valley Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. She was excited to be a part of this organization and the history involved with it. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior. She was not afraid of leaving this world and looked forward to meeting God. She spent her adult life studying God’s word and sharing her knowledge with others.

Marion is preceded in death by her parents, Jessie Baird Knight and James Bert Knight; her daughter, Susan Mount; her son, Steve Mount; and her sisters, Martha Knight and Doris Knight Benson. She is survived by Doris and Benny’s three girls, Barbara Fletcher, Betty Benson, and Becky Smith; and her dear friend Therissa Young.
