Mary Frances Wilson Hastings joined many of her loved ones in heaven on February 5, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 8, 2016 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Cranfills Gap with Pastor Joan Iker officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Rock Church Cemetery.
Born in 1929 in Spurger, Texas, she was one of seven siblings. Mary achieved her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from Stephen F. Austin University and continued on to receive her Master's Degree from Tarleton State University. She shared her love of learning with others through her lifelong career as a devoted school teacher.
Mary was an avid lover of nature as she enjoyed hikes on her mountain, bird watching, and gathering prickly pears to make her award-winning homemade jelly. Mary was loved by many for her wittiness, but most of all for the endless love she had for her very large family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Hastings; her parents, Henry Clifford Wilson and Mary Vivian Wilson; brothers, Dave, Carroll and R.L. Wilson; and sister, Thelma Wilson Gazaway. She is survived by her brother, Earl Wilson of Madison, WI and sister Sue Wilson King of Shreveport, Louisiana. Her legacy lives on in her four children David Hastings, Kathy Finstad, Betsy Campbell, and Sandy Vaughn and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
