Maxine Bakke

Maxine Bakke, 89, of Clifton died Saturday in Clifton. A Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 17, 2015 in Our Saviors Lutheran Church Norse with Pastor Ruth Hetland officiating with burial in Norse Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday, February 16,2015 in the Clifton Funeral Home Chapel.

Maxine Martin Bakke, 89 of Clifton, passed away on Saturday evening, February 14, 2015 at home surrounded by her family. She will lovingly be remembered for her wit and sense of humor.
Maxine Martin was born March 16, 1925 in Orange, Texas to Joseph Bryan Martin and Edna E. (Gravett) Martin. At age 5, her family moved to Port Arthur, Texas. She was a member of Fourth Avenue Baptist Church where she was baptized when 10 years old.
After High School, Maxine attended Lamar College in Beaumont and then the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, where she completed the John Sealy Hospital Medical Technology certification in 1946. On graduation, Dr. Goodall recruited her to come work at the Goodall-Witcher Clinic in Clifton.
Maxine met Olee Sanders Bakke and they married on November 19, 1949 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church (OSLC) at Norse where she became a devout and active member. In 1952, Olee bought the farm from his dad and they moved to the country where they raised 1 girl and 3 boys. Maxine was a member of the OSLC choir for a number of years and active in the Ladies Aid including president of WELCA. Both Olee and Maxine have participated in OSLC Smorgasbord activities since the first one in 1949.
Maxine retired from the Goodall-Witcher Clinic in Sept. 1991 (45 years). In 1996 Olee and Maxine moved to a house in Clifton but still kept the farm. After retirement, Maxine volunteered at the Nellie Pederson Civic Library, the Bosque County Historical Commission, and the Pot O' Gold Thrift Shop. Maxine and Olee celebrated 65 years of marriage on November 19, 2014, with all their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren present.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, brother Burl Lester Martin and sister Nelda Jean LaGrappe.
Maxine is survived by her husband Olee Sanders Bakke; 4 children: Virginia Heinley (steve) of Clifton, James Bakke (Gretchen) of Midland, Richard Bakke of Clifton, and Kenneth Bakke of Harker Heights; 6 grandchildren: Jeremy Heinley (Jessica) of Jackson Missouri, Megan Heinley of Dallas, Daniel Heinley of Austin, John Bakke (Dusty) of Round Rock, Elysse Denton (Keith) of Richardson, and Harriet Shields (Jarrett) of Benbrook; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Memorials can be given to the Goodall-Witcher Healthcare Foundation or Norse Cemetery Association.
