Maxine (Huse) Maxwell

June 20, 1928 — January 5, 2021

Maxine Maxwell was born Maxine Loverne Huse on June 20th 1928, the first child and eldest daughter of Morris and Lucy (Stanford) Huse. She was confirmed by Pastor Benjamin R. Maakestad on July 11, 1943 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Cranfills Gap, TX. Maxine graduated from Cranfills Gap High School class of 1945 and soon began working at a small drug store in Gatesville, TX, where an unsuspecting customer who was short on change for a purchase caught her attention. She loaned the customer a few nickels, but there was interest with that loan because two years later on September 27, 1947 she married that lucky customer, Bill Maxwell. The young couple moved to Waco, TX where they soon began long careers with well-respected employers. Maxine worked at Owens-Illinois Glass Company for 35 years before retiring in 1985, while Bill worked 35 years for Certain Teed Corporation. Along the way in 1964, Maxine and Bill adopted a baby boy at three days of age, Randall Morris Maxwell.

Maxine, Bill and Randall attended Brookview United Methodist Church in Waco, where their son was baptized and confirmed. Maxine taught Sunday School and was loved by many children. Her son joined the church sponsored Boy Scout Troop 346 and in a 1982 church ceremony Maxine was proud to pin the Eagle Scout award to Randall’s uniform. Post retirement Maxine began working part-time as an office worker for Exporters and Traders in Waco, TX, presently known as Tejas Logistics System. Maxine and Bill attended Central United Methodist Church in Waco, TX after a church merger, where they were active a number of years. Maxine continued teaching Sunday School. Desiring to stay closer to their home, she and Bill would also attend China Spring United Methodist Church before moving to Dripping Springs, TX, and living with their son Randall in 2012.

While living in Dripping Springs, Maxine and Bill celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. Her beloved Bill passed away in 2014. She continued living with her son Randall until late 2016 when she moved to Clifton Nursing and Rehab to be closer to her sisters Rita Kay and Shirley. She was also reunited with her 1945 Cranfills Gap High School classmate Anna Marie Simmons until her friend’s passing in 2018. Maxine was a kind-hearted soul and jolly Norwegian descendant who loved deeply and lived fully. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Bill, parents Morris and Lucy Huse, sisters Rita Kay Huse and Margie Zobal, and brother Dennis Huse. Nephew Brian Lee Ratliff, niece Becky Zobal; brothers-in-law, Fred “Butch” Thompson, Steve Zobal, Raymond Shelton, James (Jim), Olon, Smilon, Grady, Rady, and Stoney Maxwell. Sisters-in-law, Alma and Christine Cooper, Essie, Joyce, Bernice, and Edith Maxwell.

Maxine is survived by her son Randall Maxwell, grandchildren Amy and Caleb, sisters Shirley Thompson and Jean Shelton; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and many friends. In lieu of flowers, Maxine’s family asks you to donate to alz.org or plant a tree in your area.
