May Cosper

May Estell Cosper passed away on August 22, 2018, in Clifton. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 31, 2018, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mary Gean Cope officiating.

May was born on October 14, 1916, to Willie Mack Cosper and Mary Ann (Molly) Battershell Cosper. May was one of eleven children and she was born and reared in a large and loving Christian home on the Cosper farm in Spring Creek area.

May lived most of her life in Bosque County. May felt that Clifton was the most wonderful town. She made many friends as she tended her garden at her home on West 3rd Street. She met Glenda Strickland and Bryan Davis in this way and they remained her devoted friends until her death.

May was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Clifton. When it became difficult for May to attend church services her church came to her. She enjoyed visits from Pastor Mary Gean Cope and the church’s previous ministers. Nancy Benda, Shirley Jones, Billye Carol Owens and Stacy Owens and others from the church reached out to May as she grew older.

The Rev. Dave Anfenson was May’s chaplain at the Lutheran Sunset Home for the last two years. Dave spent a great deal of time with May during her last days and this was a special comfort to her family.

It was a special joy to May that she was able to provide childcare for Chrissy Nichols and Wyatt, Carter and Trent Guinn when they were small children. She loved talking about them and watching them grow into fine young adults.

May’s beloved son James (Jim) Douglas Rogers died in 2009. May is survived by Jim’s widow Sue Sheppard Rogers of San Marcos, by her daughter and son-in-law Betty and Ed Kisiel of Temple and her son and daughter-in-law Bob and Judy Rogers of Hideaway. May is also survived by grandchildren Jim Rogers, Jeff Rogers, Mike Rogers, Douglas Rogers, Christine Rogers Melius, and Edwin Kisiel and by their families. Her survivors include nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

May was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers and their spouses but she is survived by many much-loved nieces and nephews and their families. Her niece Zeda Cosper Hopkins and her husband Bob and her nephew Ronnie Cosper have been especially attentive to May.
