Melba Hill

October 29, 1924 — June 22, 2017

Melba D. Hill, 92, of Clifton passed away Thursday, June 22, 2017, at Goodall-Witcher Nursing Facility, where she was a resident for several months following a stroke. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2017, at First Baptist Church in Clifton with Dr. Jerry Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Clifton Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Monday prior to service time at the church.

Melba Dean Cash was born in Meridian on October 29, 1924, to Willie Bowman Cash and George Cash. She was raised on a ranch outside of Meridian and attended Meridian schools. For a brief time she lived in Mississippi and then moved to New York, where she met McRoy Hill. The couple was married in 1949 and moved to Clifton in 1956.

She worked in Clifton for many years as a seamstress at Wall’s and later was employed at Gibson’s and Winn’s in downtown Clifton. Melba had two sons and was active in local school activities and with the local scout troop, where she served as a den mother. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clifton.

Melba enjoyed doing yard work, cooking, and outdoor activities. She loved her cats and birds. Later in life, she also enjoyed trips to the casinos to play slots.

Survivors include her two sons, Charles Hill of Austin and Randall Hill of Clifton; step-grandson, Russell Alexander of Austin; three sisters, Joyce Cash of Clifton, Nadine Seljos of Clifton, and Margaret Starn of Punta Gorda, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
