Monroe Allan “Mike” Windsor, an award-winning graphic designer and artist, passed away in Clifton, on December 15, 2018, after a long illness. He was 81. A visitation will be held from 4:30-6:30 Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at Lutheran Sunset Ministries Chapel.
Mike was born on February 5, 1937, in Odessa to Mary Estelle and James Burke Windsor. Mike showed promise as a musician and played the guitar throughout his life. When told his family could not afford to buy a trumpet for the school band, Mike began focusing on visual arts, which eventually became his passion and career.
As a graphic designer and commercial artist in Dallas, Mike designed and oversaw magazine advertisements and advertising campaigns. His work often exhibited a sly humor, such as drawing on the program for an awards banquet, featuring a road sign with the words, “Eat” and “Gas”. His work was recognized by various organizations, including the Dallas-Fort Worth Art Directors Club.
After retiring to Central Texas, Mike became a more prolific painter, woodworker, and sculptor. His work often involved a stylized or abstract treatment of the animals, landscapes, and people around him. He also produced comic and whimsical paintings and woodcuts.
Mike enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was active in Texas conservation efforts. Mike and Sandra enjoyed traveling.
Mike was a veteran of the United States Army. He was also a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and the Bosque County Rotarians.
Mike is survived by Sandra, his wife of 56 years; daughter, Lisa; son, Mike, Jr. And his wife, Debra; son, Brian and his wife, Rebecca; brother, Dustin Windsor and his wife, Carol; sister-in-law, Diane Wilemon; grandchildren, Ellie, Saffron, Andrew, and Audrey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Windsor family thanks Lutheran Sunset Ministries and Sunset Hospice for the compassionate care they have given to Mike and his family during this long journey.
