Morris L. Wallace Sr.

May 31, 1922 — January 17, 2017

Morris L. Wallace Sr., 94, of Clifton passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Goodall-Witcher Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, January 20, 2017 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Smith officiating. Burial at Clifton Memorial Park.

Morris was born on May 31, 1922 in Clifton to Melvin and Roby (Standefer) Wallace. He was one of four children born to this family. He grew up in the Clifton area on the family farm. He attended the Cooper Country School, graduated from Clifton High School, attended Clifton Jr. College where he played basketball, the sport he loved. Morris was a member of the Texas National Guard prior to WWII. He later joined the US Navy for service during WWII. He served on the destroyer, USS Kendrick, from 1943-1945. His service was in the north Atlantic, Mediterranean Sea and the Indian Ocean.

On July 6, 1946, Morris married Donna Mae Burgdorff. They made their home in the Houston area until 1955. At that time, they moved to Clifton where Morris opened the Clifton branch of Gearench Mfg. Co. He served as plant manager in Clifton and was Manger of Special Projects before his retirement. He worked at the Houston and Clifton plants for 45 years.

Three children were born to Morris and Donna Mae: a daughter, Roby and two sons, Lindsey and Marshall. Morris was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clifton.

Morris liked to hunt, fish, garden and cook on his outside grill. He enjoyed watching football and basketball games and working on his farm.

Morris lived at the Clifton Lutheran Sunset home for five years before he passed away. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Donna; parents, Melvin and Roby Wallace; sister, Imogene Burgdorff; brother, Joe Preston Wallace.

He is survived by his daughter, Roby Anz and husband Gary of Clifton; sons, Lindsey and wife Janet of San Angelo, Marshall and wife Tammy of Whitesboro; brother, Wendell Wallace and wife Marynell of Pasadena; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home.
