Nadine Martha Thiele Conrad was 92 years at the time of her passing in the early morning of Friday, April 17, 2020, in Brookdale Senior Living in Sugar Land, Texas. Nadine was born at home on the family farm near Valley Mills, Texas on February 10, 1928, to William Frederick and Emilie Prescher Thiele. Nadine was baptized on March 3, 1928, at her home by Rev. John Link. Nadine was confirmed March 7, 1943, at Zion Evangelical and Reformed in the Womack Community by Rev. Herbert Baur. Nadine graduated valedictorian of her class from Valley Mills High School in 1946. She married Joseph Edward Conrad on June 26, 1948. Two children were born Betty Gail on May 3, 1952, and Ronald Joseph on October 17, 1955.
Nadine and Joseph worked side by side on their farm in the Womack Community. They raised cattle, sheep, hogs, and chickens. They always planted many crops, corn, cotton, oats, hay, maize to harvest plus a large garden. There was an abundance of fruits and vegetables to pick, can and freeze each year. Nadine was an excellent cook and baker of breads, cookies, pies, and cakes. She sewed clothing for her mother, her children and herself. Nadine made many beautiful quilts and other handwork involving crochet and embroidery which she taught to her daughter and granddaughter. She also shared her recipes and gardening and canning techniques with the girls.
During their almost 55 years together Nadine and Joseph loved to dance and volunteered with all activities for Sons of Hermann. Nadine’s faith was very important in her life with Zion United
Church in Womack. She enjoyed playing piano, teaching Sunday School and Bible School, singing in the church choir, serving as church secretary when First Presbyterian and Zion were together, participating with the Women’s Guild in all activities and the annual sausage supper.
Nadine was a kind, generous, thoughtful, hard-working, always there to volunteer in her community Christian woman, wife, mother, granny, great granny, daughter, sister, and wonderful friend. She loved her granddaughter Kristin Gail and they spent all holidays together. Nadine also loved her great-granddaughter, Emilie Alice, for 2 1/2 years.
Joseph passed in a farming accident in 2002 but Nadine continued on the farm. In August 2016 Nadine moved to Brookdale, a Senior Living Community in Sugar Land five minutes from Betty Gail and Kristin and families. They spend a portion of each day together laughing, singing, dancing, playing Wheel of Fortune on tv, watching football and baseball, celebrating all holidays together and going to church.
Survivors include Betty Gail and Amos Craig White of Sugar Land, Ronald Joseph and Janet Lynn Conrad of Grapevine, Kristin Gail and Eric Theodore and Emilie Alice Johnson of Sugar Land, a sister Dorothy and David Conrad of Clifton and many nieces, nephews and friends. Nadine was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Helen and an infant sister Mildred.
2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Matthew 25:21 Well done, good and faithful servant!
Nadine’s confirmation Bible verse: Ephesians 4:32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
