Norida Lenora (McDougal) Culp, 87, of Clifton passed away peacefully at home on December 23, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 3, 2024 at First United Methodist Church, Clifton. Burial will follow at Clifton Memorial Park. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Norida Lenora McDougal Culp was born July 5, 1937 to Chester Roy McDougal and Takla Minna Ida Conrad in Clifton and lived there all her life. She was an only child and the only girl in the neighborhood, so she played marbles and trucks with the boys.
She married Jamison Bernard (JB) Culp on June 25, 1955. They raised five children together and were married 41 years.
Norida stayed home to raise the children until they entered school, then she worked in the Clifton school cafeteria. She took classes and became certified to work in the Clifton ISD tax office. She retired from Clifton ISD after thirty years of service. Because Norida was good with numbers, she also worked with the sale tickets in the auction barn on Wednesday nights.
She served as a school room mom for all her children and a Cub Scout leader for several years. She rarely missed a game and was our greatest cheerleader.
She enjoyed her twelve grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren and was known as MawMaw to them. She enjoyed traveling to support her grandkids, whether it was a sporting event, dance recital, or a play.
Norida was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Clifton and was very active with the United Methodist Women’s group, where she served as an officer for many years.
Norida loved learning new things, so she took classes, learning to work with stained glass, quilting, painting, cake decorating, and making jewelry. She also took a series of writing classes and wrote a book called “The Dancing Leaves.” She passed down her love of these hobbies to her children and grandchildren. She
crocheted rugs and pot holders, and sewed aprons and hot bowl holders. Norida loved cooking and baking sweets, which she shared with others. She helped
support her children and grandchildren by making hundreds of green chocolate Cub pops and Rice Krispie treats to sell at events or for their teams to enjoy. She also enjoyed playing Bunco.
Norida enjoyed traveling with tour groups, family, and friends. She made it to almost all the states in the US including Alaska and Hawaii.
Norida peacefully passed away at the age of 87 on December 23, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Jay Culp and wife Karen of Deer Park, Craig Culp and wife Sandra of Midland, Julia Outlaw and husband Kenny of Clifton, Sharon Miller and husband Daryl of Port Arthur, and Douglas Culp and wife Lori of Clifton. Also surviving Norida are her grandchildren, Mindy and Brian Mitchell, Debra Culp, Megan Kitchens, Hona and Zach Armstrong, Desirae and Aaron Hill, Haden and Helen Outlaw, Starla Culp, Hanna and Brent Hostetler, Forrest and Jorden Culp, Kelsey Miller, Paige and Kris Cline, Rylee Miller; twenty-one great grandchildren and another one on the way.
Memorials may be made to the Parkinsons Foundation or United Methodist Women (UMW) of Clifton.
Pallbearers are Haden Outlaw, Forrest Culp, Brent Hostetler, Zach Armstrong, Brian Mitchell, Aaron Hill, Kris Cline and great grandson Gavin Landry.
