On Wednesday, October 31, 2018, Olive Nunley, wife, mother, daughter and sister, passed away at the age of 88 years. She will be lovingly remembered by family and friends. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., at the Fundamental Baptist Church, with Bro. George Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Clifton Memorial Park.
Olive was born February 12, 1930 at Pancoast, West Virginia. She was the seventh child and first daughter of Samuel Sherman Holcomb and Sarah Agnes Ramsey Holcomb.
Olive attended elementary school at Cherrydale and Laurel Flats in Clay County, West Virginia. She attended Jr. High and High School at Clay County High. Olive graduated from High School on May 19, 1949. During her college years, she attended Glenville State Teachers College and West Virginia Technical School. Olive taught school for many years in West Virginia in grades 1-8.
Olive married Dorsal Earl Smith on May 3, 1952. Four children were born to this union, Chereta Ann, Gwendolin Kay, Alan Wayne and Ronald Earl. She was a housewife and mother for the first 10 years of marriage. They moved to Texas in 1963. Dorsal and Olive divorced May 25, 1975.
After moving to Texas, Olive worked at Walls Mfg. Company from 1965 to 1979. She then went to work at Marathon Power Technologies in Waco, Texas from 1979 to 1988.
Olive married Furman C. Nunley on July 18, 1978. Mr. Nunly passed away August 28, 1990.
Olives most cherished loves in this life were her family and church. She was saved at age 14 at Sycamore Baptist Church. Olive was baptized at the Forks of Sycamore Creek in Indore West Virginia. She attended Ida Baptist Church in Bentree, West Virginia during her first marriage. Olive joined Clifton Fundamental Baptist Church by letter in 1964. A wonderful cook, she shared her famous peanut butter fudge with family and friends. She also loved to do crafts. Olive loved to make quilts and shared this wonderful skill with others by making quilts for all her children and grandchildren. She passed on her skill at the sewing machine to one of her precious granddaughters. She was above all a mother and grandmother with abounding love for her family and church.
Olive was proceeded in death by her parents, Samuel Sherman and Sarah Agnes Ramsey Holcomb; Husband, Furman C. Nunly; Brothers, Carl, Lessel, Clinton, Harold, Mike, and Alfred. Sisters, Freda, Dartha, and Nina. Precious daughter, Chereta Ann Evans.
Olive will be lovingly remembered by her brother, Ordy Holcomb; Her children, Alan Smith, Ronald Smith and Gwen Halsell; Her precious, 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
